Wedding Season – How to be the best dressed guest

From countryside to city, vintage to black tie, home or abroad… whatever the theme and location of the wedding you’ve been invited to this summer, we’ll help you put together the perfect outfit.

Before you start

When starting to think about an outfit, it’s a good idea to find out the theme, along with any specific dress code or requests from the bride and groom, and research the venue/location.

Look for pieces that won’t steal the spotlight, are going to be comfortable and items you can wear again after the wedding.

Wearing anything white, in-your-face or skimpy is a big no-no!

If you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed and not sure where to start, why not take a look at our July blog for inspiration?

A pretty, feminine dress is a no-brainer – think ruffles, lace or floral. Statement sleeves are big this season too. Check out the options at M&S and Phase Eight.

For any ladies who are pregnant during the wedding season, JoJo Maman Bebe have lots of outfits that will be perfect for you and your bump.

A smart, deconstructed shirt worn with a skirt, trousers or some statement culottes from Dorothy Perkins, is a nice alternative to a dress if you want to mix it up. Even go the whole hog and add a tailored blazer.

A dressy jumpsuit is a fun way of dressing up for a wedding, and you won’t need to worry about flashing anyone when you’re busting moves on the dancefloor later! Wallis have a beautiful selection of jumpsuits.

Once you’ve found the perfect outfit, it’s time to accessorize, with Monsoon and Accessorize of course! Comfortable shoes are a must-have. If you’re wearing heels make sure you can walk and stand in them for long periods of time or bring some flats for later in the evening. Then add a small bag and even a hat or chic fascinator to match.

Everything can be planned to perfection, however one thing that can always change is the weather! We recommend a cute cardigan or shawl to cover your shoulders if it suddenly gets cool, but can be easily removed if the sun makes an appearance. A small umbrella is also a good idea if you’ll need to walk between venues.

Men can have lots of fun playing about with fabrics, patterns and colour. Check out the huge range for men at Debenhams. Whether it is formal black-tie or a little more casual and relaxed, a take on the suit is the usual attire, but have a look what’s out there in the way of a statement shirt, funky shoes or jazzy socks if you’re not feeling that brave.

Fitted, tailored pieces are a must-have and it’s better to be overdressed than too casual.
