Marriotts Walk’s top 10 tips for enjoying Easter at home
While school days and holidays may seem to merge into one for the majority of schoolchildren at the present time, Easter is still an exciting time for them to celebrate.
There are still plenty of ways to enjoy some Easter fun while staying safe at home – in fact it is a great way to get all the family involved and give the kids something positive to focus on.
Whether it’s a virtual get-together, Easter-themed activities or anticipating the arrival of the Easter Bunny, here are Marriotts Walk’s top 10 Easter activities:
Egg-cellent crafts
Remember all those egg-based crafts and activities you did as a child, it’s time to revisit them with your children. Eggs are still reasonably easy to get hold of and offer up a number of cracking uses. Create your own masterpieces by painting and using Sharpies to decorate the shell of a (boiled!) egg as a piece of artwork.
Get creative with growing your own.
If you can get hold of cress seeds through an online supplier, local garden centre that delivers, or supermarket, draw a face on left over eggshells and plant the seeds on cotton wool or kitchen roll to grow some cress hair. While you are at it, look for any leftover vegetable seeds that you will now have the time to properly nurture in the garden.
Cracking competitions
Make the most of the good weather and stage a family Easter egg and spoon race – boiling the egg first is advised! You could always expand the theme to a day of family contests – three-legged race anyone?
Easter egg hunt
You might not be able to get out to an organised Easter egg hunt but there is nothing stopping you organising your own. Either hide clues around the garden, or little chocolate treats, then reward everyone taking part (adults included!) with an egg at the end.
Virtual roast dinner
Thanks to technology we can keep in contact with our loved ones easily, so why not organise a family dinner with a difference on Easter Sunday. Arrange to cook the same dinner then log in on video chat to dine and raise a glass of wine together.
Brighten up the days of others
Children will no doubt be looking to be kept busy and Easter lends itself well to arty activities. Create an Easter card for grandparents and family who are self-isolating or draw traditional Easter pictures to brighten up the windows of your home for people walking past.
Bake Easter treats
Use the extra time at home to test your abilities in the kitchen and get the kids baking. Ice home-made biscuits with Easter designs, decorate cup cakes or make Easter nests out of chocolate/cereal mixes.
Board games bonanza
The pace of modern life often leaves little time for board games – but this Easter weekend there is no excuse. An excellent way to bond and to help develop numeracy, literacy and reasoning skills, board games are an excellent way to spend Easter Sunday together.
Garden picnic
If the good weather holds, getting out into the garden for a special picnic will make Easter Sunday extra special. Pack up plenty of treats and make the most of it. Just because you can’t leave home to go somewhere special doesn’t mean you can’t make staying home extra special.
Film day
If taking it easy is the order of the day, switch on a family favourite and enjoy a spot of escapism cuddled up on the sofa together. Perfect.
