While we have lived through serious times in the past year, a light is beginning to shine at the end of the tunnel and the changes we’ve made will give way to a new perspective on life.

As an antidote to the darkness, fashion will embrace fun, frivolity and brightness through trends that will make the start of 2021 shine.

The casuals that have seen us through the past year will give way to flamboyant styling that dresses up smart and casual outfits alike.

But it’s not all about structure as many trends embrace loose-fit clothing that combines comfort with couture.

Here are a few of the hotly tipped trends to watch out for when looking ahead to fashions for the new year when shopping at Marriotts Walk.

Pretty pastels

Pastel colours are tipped to be big news, from pinks and purples to blues and greens. Fashions will draw on the soft, warm colours that bring a gentle touch of fun to fashion. Dresses, tops, trousers and jackets can all tap into the trend – and keep a special look out for yellow, which is anticipated to be one of the big colours of the year.

Fancy florals

It’s not just colours that are bringing a dash of fun to fashion but patterns too. Floral designs are back once again with patterns embracing nature-inspired prints of all sizes. Large, brash florals are just as likely to be on high street hangers as subtle, ditzy flowers so take your pick!

Big bold shoulders

Many of the predicted trends for 2021 nod to fashions of the past, such as fringing, heavily patterned jackets and knee-high boots, but the 80s is very much in evidence. Large-shouldered jackets buffeted with shoulder pads and puffed sleeves are just two of the ways shoulders will be big in 2021. Overstated, fun and glamorous, big shoulders are expected to be, well, big!

BELTS

Belts galore

We’ve got used to keeping things loose with the casual attire that ruled 2020, and the season’s belts will allow you to reintroduce a bit of structure without overdoing it. Belted jackets are tipped as a major trend, while belts with bring definition to the xl style fashions that are expected to prove popular.

Oversized clothing styles

Fear not, while some styles take a tip from 80s power dressing, loose-fit fashion will remain as a favourite. XL styling will have something to offer everyone as it is applied across the board. Wide-legged trousers, oversized shirts, jackets and coats will all let you feel on trend yet comfortable.

Dependable denim

Denim is here to stay as always but the legs continue to get wider as fashion moves on from skinny styles. Wide leg, loose fit jeans and serious flares could well be the order of the day in 2021.

The key theme for the season seems destined to be fun, so go for colours, patterns, loose fit and retro styling – whether that is the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s or even 90s. There really should be a bit of something to make everyone feel fabulous in 2021’s comeback fashions.
