Bright, bold and strong: Dress to impress with the colour trends for 2023

Colours capture a mood and can be defining for fashion – and colour trends for 2023 is no exception as an unconventional colour palette is expected to sweep across clothing rails.

More than just colours, the on trend hues for clothing and interiors are seen to be reflective of the world at large and the shades that have been tipped to dominate the fashion agenda this year certainly capture a mood.

The general feeling, amidst the chaos and anxiety the modern world brings us, is that we also need some joy – and to look to the future with some positivity and courage.

Trend setters have captured this mood in unconventional colours seen on the catwalk and they are tipped to be big.
Think bright and complex colours!

Colour of the year

The standard has been set by Pantone, which has identified its colour of 2023 as Viva Magenta. A bold colour it says, ‘sets a new narrative’.

Derived from red, Pantone describes Viva Magenta as exuding strength and optimistic celebration.

While this will be a headline colour for the year, reds are in evidence elsewhere, having already featured on the catwalk and are seen as representative of the need for sustainability and a connection to nature, reflecting that the environment is a major issue. As well as being a key catwalk colour, red is also expected to feature strongly in interior design.

Hints of purple can also be seen in magenta, and colours hovering around that shade are tipped to be popular choices, particularly the lighter, brighter violet.

However, the move towards purple and reds will not be subtle. Rather than being worn as a pop of colour, these bold shades will be seen in jackets, suits, dresses and in multiple, matching layers.

Keeping it bright

At the opposite side of the spectrum, but just as bright, cobalt blue and lime green are also top colour trends for 2023. While lime green has been edging towards the spotlight in recent years as neon brights took centre stage, it has been a while since cobalt blue was a scene stealer.

Both are back, and like the purple and reds, anything goes when it comes to colour – the brighter the better. So go big and bold with outfits, choosing dazzling suits and gleaming satin shirts.

Metallics

It’s not all about bright colours this year, although silver will certainly help you to shine as it is also going to feature in fashion trends for 2023. Silver is a great colour to wear, making any outfit look dressy with minimal effort.

Silver dresses will be popular, but it can also work well teamed with a classic colour such as black or white – and both of these shades will also remain popular choices on both the catwalk and high street.

With a big move towards colours that radiate positivity and brightness, 2023 is a year for neutrals to take a back seat. With matching colours being a major theme, embrace the chance to dress to impress and have fun with colours that appeal to you, whether that is dressing head to toe in magenta or switching up jeans with a bright shirt. Be bold and embrace the strong colours trends for 2023.
